Brent Houston

Brent's mother died of colon cancer two years ago. A few years prior to her diagnosis, she skipped a routine colonoscopy because her insurance did not cover it and she could not afford it. The Affordable Care Act requires your insurance company to cover preventative care.

3-D Electrical Mapping of the Heart

3-D electrical map of the heart allows Sentara Heart cardiac electrophysiologists to see very clearly where the source of an irregular heart beat, or arrhythmia, is located. Physicians can use these mapped images when they perform procedures such as a cardiac ablation to treat atrial fibrillation, the most common type of arrhythmia. The 3-D maps of the heart are created when the physician carefully guides a sensitive catheter through the blood vessels until it is inside the heart. The catheter senses electrical activity and maps it out on a computer model of the hearts chambers. The image is color coded to show different regions of the heart and other electrical activity. For more information about irregular heart beat or atrial fibrillation, visit www.sentara.com/shac.
